Mission & Purpose

Brightstars basketball aims to remove financial, social, and systemic barriers so all kids can have equal opportunities to learn, play and enjoy basketball while building healthy habits and a love for education.

Founded in 2025, BrightStars Basketball was created to expand access to opportunities that meet the needs of our community and address systemic inequities. We provide high-quality, affordable basketball programming that supports marginalized youth and girls, particularly from racialized communities. Our mission is rooted in the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to shine and have equal access to the resources, mentorship, and pathways needed to succeed — both on and off the court.

Foundation

I fell in love with the game of basketball at a young age. Growing up in elementary school, my friends and I spent most of our summers playing outside, competing, learning, and building a passion for the game.

As I got older and developed my skills, I began trying out for teams and looking into basketball camps. Unfortunately, my family wasn’t always able to afford the costs associated with playing at a higher level. I had to step away from teams and miss opportunities because of  fees, travel costs, and other expenses that many other kids were able to manage.

Despite these challenges, I was fortunate to be supported by great coaches along the way. With their guidance and belief, I was able to continue pursuing basketball and eventually earn the opportunity to play at the college level.

However, the same barriers that I faced growing up are still very real today—and in many cases, even more common. Too many talented and passionate young athletes are being held back because of the growing gap in opportunity, mentorship, and access to resources.

Bright Stars Basketball was created to change that.

Our mission is to provide young athletes with access to high-quality training, competition, and mentorship—regardless of financial situation or background. We are committed to creating opportunities, removing barriers, and ensuring that every child who loves the game has a chance to grow, compete, and succeed.
